I have three different fax to email web sites and I can tell you that it will take you very long to recoup R2,850 unless of course you have a huge database or can persuade some big companies to use your fax to email services.

Killing Kebble

Normally I only read business related books but decided to read something different for a change. The book is still business related but not the type of business most of us will get involved in.

The book was written by Mandy Wiener, one of the journalists who covered the Kebble case in detail.

Although I generally dislike journalists with a passion, I think Mandy did a great job to bring out the story behind the story.

It is all about the Jo’burg underworld, corrupt high flying government officials and greed which went wrong

I could not put it down and I cannot remember when last did I enjoy a book this much, it is an excellent piece of work.

She tells the story as it is and use the language the people use, so it might upset some sensitive readers, but it perfectly paints the picture of the people you are dealing with.

Nail Business

Let’s look at an “off-line” business concept for a change.

There are many people who are looking for a way to make money or who are looking for ideas to start their own businesses.

Today we look at an idea for the Ladies:

Did you know that the manicuring, pedicuring, and artificial nail industry have a combined sales figure  of more than R42 billion per year? It is one of the fastest-growing and most creative, rewarding, and high-paying professions in cosmetology today.

It always amazes me to see what high priority woman put on cosmetics and other “look good” products, even if their budget is tight. For you as potential business owner this is a good sign.  As a man I cannot imagine that you have to pay somebody to paint your nails or do your make-up, but for a woman it is so important that they will sacrifice a week’s chocolate money just for a new set of nails.

There is a company in Pretoria who offers various courses on nails, permanent make up, professional make up, hair extensions and all those nice things woman knows about.

I looked at their concept and think it is a rather good idea. There are many young ladies who do not have a proper job or who cannot find a job and I think this should be a good business to get started in as there is demand for it. The way I see it you can also start small from home and later on go bigger. The knowledge you gain from the courses can also position you better to find a job at a beauty salon one day.

SurveyBasket

I changed my view on Survey Basket. I left my original article below but lately I think that SurveyBasket sucks. It seems as if they lost interest in their concept. I made good money in the beginning but up to date only received 5 surveys to complete. Currently this is not a good option anymore. It started off very well, but it seems as if it is dying a slow death

OK, may people ask me about SurveyBasket so I decided to give you the facts as it is.

So far I made R815.00 from SurveyBasket after I paid my R75.00 activation fee on 19 Feb 2010.

I must admit that only R55.00 came from completing surveys and the rest from referrals. The fact that there were not many surveys do not bother me yet, as I previously mentioned, they are a new company and will add new surveys as they get more companies involved.

The important part is that

1. they do offer a 100% money back guarantee to those who are not happy and
2. that they did actually pay the money into my bank account.

It seems to me that their system is triggered once the balance in your account is more than R100. On the screen shots below you will see that they paid me 4 times this month, a total of R600 for the month.  (Remember that 10 Baskets = R1, thus 800 baskets = R80)

OK, I know, making R60 profit is not a big deal but I am trying to illustrate a point here.

When I joined SurveyBasket it was purely to evaluate them to see if they will be sending me surveys and if they will be paying. You can read all about it in the initial post which you can find by clicking here

Because it was an evaluation only I did not promote it via email. I deliberately only posted this one post on my blog about it. The initial post about SurveyBasket earned me 14 referrals of which 4 upgraded their accounts. I also received 3 surveys during the same time. That earned me a great big total of R135.00 which was paid via EFT into my bank account.

I spent about 5 minutes registering with SurveyBasket, 10 minutes to write the post on my blog and in total about 10 minutes completing the 3 surveys they sent me.Thus I spent 15 minutes to setup a “system” which will be earning me an income for many years to come (as long as SurveyBasket continue their business)

From above you can see that:

1. SurveyBasket does send you surveys to complete
2. SurveyBasket does pay
3. Having your own web site (with traffic) does work

I know that I could have made much more money if I promoted it properly, but that was not the purpose of the initial exercise .

How not to

Today I am torn apart.

I have read a very good book which I like to share but unfortunately the image the author portray in his book is that of somebody who’s moral standards I do not exactly agree with. Seems like this guy’s libido is the driving force of his life.

But if we ignore all the unnecessary reference to wild sexual relationships we can learn quite a lot from this otherwise well written book. My personal opinion is that all his sexual comments does not contribute to the book at all. (perhaps I am just a bit old fashioned)

It has been written in a very relaxed, comical and straight to the point style.

At least it does not feel as if you are reading a Business Book.

The book is aimed at those who want to start their own business or those who have just started a new business and do not know where to go next.

The author, Scott Cundill, gives you excellent advice on How NOT to Start and Run Your Own Business.

Too many people think that starting and running a small business is about spending thousands on offices, company names, structures, attorneys, etc. But it is not.

If you read this book you will see how easy it actually is to get started in your own business. You can even do it tonight if you have the right product or idea.

OK, I must admit it, I just cannot stay away from online money making ideas. Even though I earn a living from the Internet I always wonder what the other guys are up to.

The first product I reviewed this year is the “Zero Cost System” but Matt Benwell.

In his eBook Matt reveals how he made $46,000 in 5 months using free Web 2.0 systems. Thus he did not spend anything on developing a web site, paying for ads, etc. He also shows you how to promote your web pages for free using systems like Twitter, etc.

In my opinion the information in the eBook is valuable and spot on. Matt shows you how to identify and target the correct (unsaturated) niche, how to find buyer sensitive keywords, how and where to setup web pages (using some web 2.0 systems) which will rank good and will not cost you money and how to drive tons of targeted traffic to your sites using some more free services like Twitter.
