Dropshippers

Warning

Avoid

This seemed like a good idea but it is going nowhere fast. I found that most of the goods they offer are highly over priced and you can import it yourself cheaper. It also seems as if the owners are not making enough money from the dropshipping business as they now started to send out offers to their mailing lists which are mostly affiliated offers by Offerforge and Traffic Synergy. For now I would say AVOID this business. It is a brilliant idea but you need the right people to run it.

Ten months ago my view on this business was:

Today we are looking into a business which offers you three ways of earning a potential income.

The company is called “Dropshippers.co.za” and you will find them at www.dropshippers.co.za .

This is the first Drop Shipping business I am aware of in South Africa.  I know in America it is a very popular way for companies to distribute their products.

What is Drop Shipping?

It is an interface between product suppliers, product promoters and the client.  In short this means that you can sell products online and via Drop Shippers the products will be delivered to your clients on your behalf, thus you do not have to worry about sending the goods or keeping stock.

How do you make money from this?

1. Affiliate Marketing

Since the main topic of this blog is making money from affiliate marketing, adsense, etc I will first look at the affiliate marketing side of the business.

You can register for free as an affiliate. You will get banners and text links which you can use to promote the business. If you refer a client who become a retailer or product supplier you will earn R100 commission. If the client you refer only become a normal user (ie shopper) you still earn R1 commission. 2. Become a retailer

You can setup your own shop and start selling the stock that is in the Drop Shipping inventory. You make your price and make your profit when you sell something. The main difference from a normal online store is that you will not need to create, store and ship the items yourself. Instead, you will use DropShippers to do that on your behalf.

In other words, once a customer visits your website and makes a purchase, you’ll forward the order details to DropShippers, and they will ship the item to the customer.

In order to make a profit you simply need to price the products on your website higher than what dropshippers charges you.

3. Make money as a supplier

If you are a product manufacturer or supplier, this is the ideal way to get thousands of online retailers to promote your product.

If you need more information or would like to make use of the service, go to http://www.dropshippers.co.za/ today and register for free.

Caution

My opinion:

This can work if there is an ethical company doing it. I registered on the free acount and also upgraded to the retailer account.

When you are in free account mode they show you typical prices of products where you can make between 100 and 300% profit when you sell the goods. After I upgraded to retailer I found that the prices are not that great, especially if you add the courier fee. Some of the goods I can even get at better prices on the Chinese market. Coincidentally just about all the products listed are supplied by Chinese companies.

I would suggest you check it out, but be careful. I will now order some product to see if it actually get delivered.

I am really starting to wonder about this company. Their support really sucks. I haven’t been able to get a reply from them. I even transfer a R100 to their Absa account because I wanted to become a retailer but still nothing. The website just says that my transaction is waiting confirmation. I think it’s best to stay away from this company.

@karrin I have been with dropshippers for a few months now and they are a legit company. What I have figured is that they are asian[chinese, japanese, etc.] people probably operating from Asia. I can vouch for there support in the past as they are helpful(considering the bad english) Something that I always do is to email their suppliers before I do any transaction with them. You can’t really blame them for their suppliers problems. ESPECIALLY if you had to think about the earthquake in Japan. Wouldn’t some suppliers have been affected? Maybe so bad that they forgot all about there dropshippers account. Dropshippers does make money off registration although that alone is impossible to run that business with. they have clearly out time, money and effort into it. They make more money off the suppliers than the retailers! Just as a note I have been receiving emails from them recently promoting other services like fax2email etc. so at least I know they are alive.
If you feel that they have wronged you, you should report them to the relevant authorities. They have an absa bank account(for western union money transfer logically) and therefore have a paper trail. Otherwise seek other oppurtunities:) That’s just my opinion on it. I hope it gives you some Clarity…

Dankie Pieter vir jou goeie raad. Ek sal liewer verbyhou.

  8. Pieter says:

    Hey JG

I have received R200 payment from them for affiliate commission.

How does their computer prices compare to some one like http://www.computerwholesalers.co.za
    who also offer drop shipping.

Survey Basket is also starting to give me a bad feeling.

Apparently each seller on dhgate determines his own courier fee, but yes it is very expensive. Importing from China works best if you buy thousands of one thing, that is why not many people are doing it.

I also use PayFast, they are great. Their support is good and they pay out very fast, as the name suggests.

  14. Thanks for those links, your website led me onto payfast and I have installed the module for osCommerce and signed up. Lifesaver! I was hoping to do a ‘toys for boys’ type site on my domain http://www.energized.co.za.

I will look more into http://www.dhgate.com but have found their shipping (in some cases and for the products I want) to be quite expensive.

    Hi All;

My 5c worth is this: I think they are a rip off. I looked into them some months ago on my blog. The killer for me was that they wanted my SA ID number (and other personal details) before they would let me see what merchandise was available and at what sort of cost. I emailed them directly and got told I needed to open a complete account but that they assure me it will be worth my while. I say they could at least give some examples. I said I would not sign up, giving my personal details, until I had some proof.

They are linked to the http://www.sellonbidorbuy.co.za website (among others), which accoding to bidorbuy (as per comments posted on my blog post)Bid or Buy have sent a cease and desist order to them. This (sellonbidorbuy.co.za and several other “example” sites) all have the same domain owners and are all hosted in the USA – check out the whois on co.za.
I still get spam from them – both email and comments on my blog. Fortunately Akismet does not like them either :)

The post on my blog is http://blog4cash.co.za/drop-shipping-rip-offs-in-south-africa/

I say “If you go, go with care”. I am not going.

  16. Pieter says:

David, I hoped to do the same thing. I just opened a shop at http://www.hilux4x4.co.za/theshop and pictured this full only outdoor goody shop supplied dropshippers products.
    I am also looking at
http://www.dhgate.com/ but have not used them yet.

  17. I was hoping it would be a simple process of signing up,list products and earn your commission. Handeling fee I understand but seriously paying monthly for products that dont have that much mark up seems a waste of effort… and I was thinking of building e commerce websites and selling them on using them to stock! I’ll keep searching and as last resort give them a go.

Do you have an article on trusted suppliers from china etc?

  18. Pieter says:

I am having my doubts as well. I upgraded to retailer and the prices I see there are not much different than what you can get directly on the Chinese sites like http://www.dhgate.com/ , only difference here is that the courier is cheaper. As far as I can see the companies who will “ship” the goods are all Chinese companies.
I have not received any commission yet, you will see that you only get a big commission once somebody upgrade to retailer.
I cannot say anything bad about them yet, but I am starting to get a bad feeling.

  19. JG says:

I would really like to know if this company is legit. The person writing on their site, mails and blogs seems to be quite bad at English… and nowadays bad English means Nigerian Scammers… Have you recieved any affiliate payouts from them, Piet?

Do you know of anyone who actually uses them and makes money through them? Do they actually deliver goods etc?
