Morning Coffee Plugin

Here are some tips for FireFox users.

If you are not using FireFox yet then you are loosing out big time on an Internet experience of a lifetime and I suggest you change to FireFox. Get it at http://www.firefox.com

I will add tips as I discover and implement it. I just love working with FireFox and there are some real nifty plugins you can use to make it work better for you.

1. Open search results  in new tab.

When you use the search function in the toolbar of FireFox it opens the results in the same window or tab as where you are currently working. This drives me nuts as I would like to keep the page where I am working open.

You can set FireFox to open the search results in a new tab, this is how:

  1. In the address type in the following about:config
  2. A windown will open and at the top of the window is a field called “filter”. In the filter field type browser.search.openintab
  3. It will show a line and the line would end with “false”. Double click on the line and the “false” will turn into “true”

That is it, from now on when you do a search the result will automatically open in a new tab.

2.  Open links in new tabs

I think TAB browsing is the coolest thing FireFox ever discovered, no wonder the copy cats followed them.

If you are reading a pafe which contains links you do not want to click a link and loose your original page. There are three ways to open a link in a new tab;

  1. Right click on the link and select the “open in new tab” option
  2. Press and hold the ctrl key on your keyboard and then click the relevant link
  3. This is the nice one, if you are using a three button or wheel mouse, use the middle button or wheel when clicking on the link and the link will open in a new tab.

Might be interesting to mention that all three methods mentioned above also works in Google Chrome. A friend of mine informed me that apparently the centre mouse button trick does not work with his Microsoft Wireless Mouse for some reason.

3. Morning Coffee Plugin

Click the little arrow next to the cup

Most of us have a list of web sites we open first thing every morning. I like to open the Adsense and affiliate sites each morning so I can see how much I earned in my sleep. Then I also like to read two or three business news sites and each day I read a different motivational blog.

The Morning Coffee plugin is just what you need. You install the plugin and can then configure it to open your favorite sites when you press the coffee cup button.

You can get it at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2677

After you installed it you will note a little cup next to your address bar. Open the page you would like to add, then click the little arrow next to the cup and choose whether it should add it every day or only on a specific day. Once you added all the sites, when you click the cup it will open each site in a new tab. I also use this if I look at a site but do not have time to give it attention but would like to be reminded about it later on. I then add it to the following day and guess what, the next day it pops up. If I do not give it attention tomorrow it will pop up again next week the same time, until I remove it.

4. Web Developer Add-On

This is not a Add-On everybody will use, but it is very useful for web developers. I helps you to see what others did on their sites like what java they used, to view their style sheets, see what the width of the tables or divs are, etc. It is a taskbar at the top where you can select different options.
