How to overcome anxiety

Worried?

I receive some  short and powerful daily motivational emails from Be Motivated Today. These emails became part of my daily routine and it covers all aspects of life.

I would like to share the one which I received this morning with you. There are so many people who have lost their jobs or who are about to loose their jobs. Hi Pieter

Anxiety can be one of your biggest stressors. If you can overcome the worry habit you will eliminate a lot of stress.

Someone once said: “Worrying is like paying interest on money you have not borrowed.”

Worrying does not improve the situation.

And about 90% of the things we worry about don’t happen anyway.

The key is to be in control of your thoughts and choose them appropriately. So here’s how to overcome worry:

1. Consider the worst case scenario. Then choose to accept that this may happen.


For Example: You lose your job. You WORRY!

Ask yourself: “What is the worst that could happen?”

Answer: You can’t find another job and have to sell your car, home and other valuables.

Now choose to accept this.

It is always your choice.

2. Decide to believe that the worst will not happen, but the best will.

Make a decision that you refuse to believe that the thing/s you worry about will happen.

For Example: You’ve lost your job, but decide that you will find a better job.

Start acting as if this has indeed happened or is about to. So you’ve lost your job, but you are excited about the job you are about to find. You look forward to new challenges and a better income. You tell your friends that it is just a matter of time before you get this better job.

Be disciplined about maintaining positive thoughts. Tell yourself that all will work out well.

3. Think through solutions:

Brainstorm for solutions.

Get input and ideas from others.

Develop the ideas which produce an energy, drive, and enthusiasm in you.

4. Do what you can and then trust.

Ask for God’s help and face the situation with a great attitude.

Do what needs to be done with enthusiasm and a determination to succeed.

Leave the rest to your Creator, believing that things will work out.

Practical:

What is causing you to worry at the moment?

Plan when you will work through the above steps to help you stop worrying about this situation.

Don’t let worry cause you sleepless nights, Pieter.

I choose to trust and believe that all will work out

    Thank you for sharing Pieter, it is so true, it really do not help that you worry about something. You actually make matters worse when you worry. Just lift your head and look for a solution.
