Setcom Launches MonsterPay

Setcom launched a new product called Monsterpay. Over the years thousands of web sites relied on Setcom for receiving online payments. Now web site owners can use MonsterPay to accept online payments on their web site. BUT not online can web site owners use this facility. The normal Internet users can also use Monsterpay to send and receive funds over the Internet without exposing your banking or credit card details online.

There are no setup or monthly fee, MonsterPay just takes a small percentage of each transaction.

For some years now PayPal did not treat South Africans very well. They are a bit stuck up to allow South Africans to open accounts with them to receive payments.

I see this new MonsterPay service as our South African solution to the PayPal problem.

@Pieter – I poked around MonsterPay very carefully (using the tester account they offer for people looking to set up with them). But PayFast is looking more up my alley. Very simple and clear. And as I mentioned before, support and communication has been very good. Thumbs up to PayFast. I wasn’t willing to risk testing if MonsterPay still had those registration problems!

@Miriel – I stopped using Monsterpay and am using PayFast now. Payfast is much better orginized and gives less errors. They pay out my funds faster as well.

My gosh, finally. I’ve been trying to research MonsterPay to find out the user’s take on it. The only negative comments I was finding was Herve Collette on every site they could go ranting on and on. Everyone else seemed satisfied or didn’t bother to research anything after reading this one person’s spouting.
@Pieter and David – you still using MonsterPay? Are these problems still persisting? If they are, it’s a pity – the mobile payment features looked really useful.

PayFast looks very clear and organized, and communication with them has been a real pleasure.

Lots of problems? it is much worse than that. I live in Spain and received a payment in ZAR. Monsterpay clearly told me that I will not be able to withdraw my funds unless I have a South African account. So I complained to them, and guess what? now they have also taken the 290 US dollars that was on my Monsterpay account and barred me from their site!!! how professional is that? if you think I am joking, just search on youtube, I have posted a video showing my account and email exchanged. This company is fraudulent and I really do not advise anyone to use them unless you like high risks. Also in case of problems with them there is no-one to turn to (no financial ombudsman)… the person partly or totally responsible for stealing my funds is Laura Cefferty laurac@setcom.com. Steer clear!

@David, OK, I now agree with the problems. The past month I also had problems with Setcom. Many people complain they cannot register or cannot complete the process which results in lost sales. I am now looking at http://www.payfast.co.za and will report on it as soon as I received my first withdraw in my bank account.

  6. Pieter says:

Thanx, will keep an eye on it, but I have been using it for more than a year now without any problems.

  7. David says:

This isn’t a new service, it’s just the old service ‘re-branded’ to Monsterpay. It even says ” What’s New: Setcom.com is re-branded to MonsterPay.com ” on their website. We’ve been using this for a while, though we have lots of problems with it, there don’t seem to be any good options for South African online merchants.
