South Africa’s Greedy Government

Our Corrupt Government

Normally I would like to stay out of politics but today I had a laugh when I read the newspaper online.

I was reading the article of the new premier who just spent R1.1 million of our tax money to buy a new Beemer while she already have a 2 year old 730d which she bought at R900,000 two years ago. (See “NW premier to splurge R1.1m on new luxury car”)

In the related links at the bottom I followed some other related stories and this is where I spotted the irony.

Look at the following two articles:

  1. Zuma govt blows R1.5bn on luxuries
  2. Leaders must burst out of their bling bubbles

In the first article we see good examples how our current government enrich themselves and spend billions of our countries money to maintain their status and high living.

In the next article we see how our dear Mr Zuma visited some informal settlement and pretend to be shocked about their poor living conditions. “Visiting Sweetwaters settlement this week, the president was moved to tears by the conditions of his fellow citizens who lived, he said, in conditions ill-befitting even animals.”

For the past 16 years the ANC government made very sure that they enrich themselves and their families with state money. Now Mr Zuma pretends to be shocked about the conditions in informal settlements which are there because of his government’s inability to perform. Seems like they are so focused about enriching themselves that they do not care about the others.

Only when it comes near the next election will they start to use funds to clean the settlements and give the people food packages in order to brainwash them to vote for the ANC.

Let’s forget about the measly R1.1 million for a car and the 46 Billion spent on the world cup soccer and let’s focus on the R1.5 billion spent on luxuries by the Zuma clan in just over a year.

With that money the same guy who pretends to be moved by his fellow country men’s living conditions could use the luxury money to put at least one proper meal in front of about 40,000 starving people, every day for a whole year. Or they could have built proper house for 15,000 families.  (world cup soccer = R46 billion = food for 6.3 million for a year or 460,000 houses)

This is a good example of what happens when you give people with a “poor person’s mentality” the money and the power to handle big sums of money. I mentioned in a couple of my previous posts that in order to become wealthy you first have to develop the mindset of a wealthy person. This is also why 95% of lotto winners are dead broke a year after they won their millions, it is because of the very same problem as described above.

These flashy big dogs in our government are not wealthy, they might be rich (from tax money) but in their minds hey remain as poor as ever.

As I said, I normally do not want to become involved in politics, but it worries me to see reports on a daily basis where our government mismanaged or stole government money while their own people suffer and live in dreadful circumstances.

I added a report by the Wasteful Expenditure watchdog which shows where all of this money has been wasted, click here to download.
