Time Management

Time management

One thing that always amazes me is that a poor person has 24 hours in a day. And a rich person also has 24 hours in each day. What makes the difference, why can a rich person use that time to become rich?

On one of his CDs John Maxwell said: “Imagine you have only one week left to live. Make three lists. List No 1 is about all the things you have to do. List No 2 is about all the things you want to do. And list No 3 is about all the things you neither have to do nor want to do. Then scrap list No 3.”

This is excellent advice. I implemented it in my daily schedule and suddenly I have an hour or two extra each day.

Once you start looking in depth to what you spend time on each day you will be amazed at how much time you waste. If you are working towards your dream it is important to set up a daily schedule and include some time each day to build your dream.  I know people who are not wealthy, yet always complain that they are too busy. They complain that they do not have money and that they would like to earn some extra money but when you present them with an opportunity to create wealth they just say “Oh, it looks nice but I do not have the time to do it”

I fail to see the logic in their response. This is not about having time or not, this is all about priority. Those same people spend at least 4 hours per day sitting in front of the TV watching all kinds of negative junk but they do not have time to build their future? If you do not have the time to build your future, what are you going to do? Remain in that state for the rest of your life? Are you so happy with not having time to do anything that you choose to remain in that position or is it a lame excuse not to do anything?

If you are serious about achieving success, if you are serious about getting out of your current situation and earning more money than you can spend, then you must MAKE time to work on building your wealth. Get away from the TV and start doing something. Watching TV will never make you rich. It only programs you with all kinds of negative thoughts, murder, violence, hatred, poverty, etc. You do not need that. There are some useful programs on TV, but be careful what you watch. The next time you watch a program where people get murdered or a program filled with violence, stop for a moment and think what you are busy programming your mind with. (And the minds of your children!)

Setting time aside to build your future does not mean spending ten hours a day working on your business. Each person has different circumstances but even if you can start with 30 minutes a day it will make a difference. Sometimes we think we cannot do something because we think we must spend some hours each day on it. But if you constantly spend 30 minutes on something new just to get started you will see how your priorities change and later on you will miraculously find more time to spend on your dream.
