It was my Dad's birthday on 23 September and we traveled to De
Aar. Since it was school holidays We decided to take a tour through
the Karoo on our way back to Langebaan. We did not plan anything.
The idea was to sleep where ever we found a camping spot and stay
there as long as we want to and according to how much there is
to do and how much we liked the place. Another prerequisite was
to avoid tar roads as far as possible.
Matjiesfontein
On our way to De Aar I decided to turn off to Matjiesfontein.
For years now we just chased pass Matjiesfontein thinking that
one day we will stop there and have a look. If you think of it
it is actually such a stupid idea to chase the time and not see
the places next to the road. I were stunned. I could not believe
that there could be such a beautiful place. No new buildings were
built and the whole place is a museum. Talking about the museum,
inside the station building is a display of a wide variety of
antiques of the area. It will take you about an hour to walk through
this part. Then afterwards you cannot afford to leave without
having coffee and scones at the coffee shop.
