4x4 off-road trail - Ou Trekpad - Cape Town |
Also see http://www.outrekpad.com/ On 8 Dec 2007 a couple of Hilux Owners got together to meet each other and have some fun in the sand. It was my first time at this trail. The trail is just outside Blouberg. If you drive on the N7 from Cape Town to Malmesbury, turn left at the M19. At the next crossing, turn right and continue for about 4.5Km. The entrance to the farm is on the left and there is a sign reading "Vaatjie" Turn in here and follow the road the the Ou Trekpad 4x4 route.
There is a lapa available with clean ablution facilities and ample braai facilities.
This route is not easy to evaluate. The difficulty of the route will vary according to the season. In the rainy season it will be rather difficult as there are areas where you will drive through some swamp like areas. When it is very dry, the sand will be very loose and difficult to conquer. At the time we went there the sand was not extremely dry but there were no water. So the route was very easy and did not offer real excitement. There are some small dunes and river beds. If you are new to sand driving, this is a good place to practice.
I personally think the fee of R150.00 per vehicle
is a bit hefty for this route. Not the type of route I will go back to.
